Mercury nominee KT Tunstall emerged like a butterfly into the folk roots scene, arriving in such a way that most people missed the hard work being done by the caterpillar.
A sparkling new songwriter with Chinese blood, a Scottish heart and a ‘spell it like it sounds’ name, produces a sound that is so full of vibrancy and charm that she is a classic singer-songwriter in the making. With an articulate, accessible brew of rootsy sass, wistful quandary and after-hours atmosphere, her stripped back sound is lo-fi but with a hint of rawness.
Debut album Eye To The Telescope offers a rare, emotionally connecting intensity with gripping lyrical bite and heartfelt melody and has just been granted a BPI Gold award to recognise over 100,000 sales in the UK.
Since completing the album life has been a blur of gigs, first supporting Joss Stone, then touring Europe, performing at Cambridge Folk Festival and igniting the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury.
KT has a fantastic sound that has created a genuine buzz and truly worthy of being the new Madamme Butterfly.
